Movable Major Scale Demo
Think of the master pattern as a rubber band. It’s endless and just keeps cycling around itself.
Sure, it takes a while to get your head around, but the important point is…
Your scale and chord fingering patterns don’t change! All that does change is where you play them along the fretboard (to change keys).
In essence, once you learn a pattern in one key, you have learned them for ALL keys – major AND minor!
So this means you only have one set of patterns to learn. NOT 12 patterns for the 12 major scales and another 12 for the minor scales.
Just as you move a bar chord to get a different chord ‘name’ – the actual chord shape stays the same. Same with the major scale. The fingerings remain the same.
Ok, I get that the master pattern is the same for all keys and is just moved to different starting notes…
… so how should I practice the pattern?
What I mean is… what is the best way to practice the pattern?
Thanks
a look at the ‘C Major Playalong’ video halfway down this page:

thanks for the lesson
Thanks JB for the video. I downloaded the Major Scale attachment. It helps to have audio to accompany the pdf. Would you have minor scales and Mixolydian scales patterned too? Do you have them? If you do send me a copy. I would appreciate it. Thanks for all you do!
Minor scales and mixolydian scales are the same as the major scale. So I’m not really sure what you’re asking me?
