What’s This Guitar Theory eCourse About, JB?
Good question…
It’s my very firm belief that a rudimentary knowledge and understanding of scale and chord theory is essential… if you really want to get in control over how fast you progress with your guitar playing.
This applies whether you:
- have been playing a few years but now want to get a little deeper into knowing the how and why of what you’re doing (or could be doing)
- or, if you’re a beginner. This knowledge will help you focus and provide a solid direction to your learning
Either way you’ll benefit hugely by knowing a little music theory and how that translates to the guitar fretboard.
Of course, understanding scale and chord theory is not a magic bullet. You have to figure out how to apply the knowledge to playing and learning. (I’ll share some tips to help with that along the way.)

Thing is, though, most people don’t actually know how scales and chords relate to one another. That causes a lot of confusion…when learning scales and chords, and especially when learning songs.
